Valentine’s Day attracts a lot of superficial talk about love, but it strikes a chord in that we all want love in our lives. Maybe the holiday reminds us of how much we wish – and against all experience to the contrary – expect love to be simple: hearts, flowers, chocolates, and tender I love you’s.
But our lives teach us…..
In honor of Valentine’s Day, a love poem

From loving you?
For loving you has cost me much;
More than I thought I had to spend.
I was so young and starry-eyed
When first we met;

This week, I’m struck that Valentine’s Day coincided with the first Sunday of Lent: a mash-up of hearts and heartbreak. While February 14th celebrates everything warm and soft and sweet we feel about love, Lent calls us to remember its cost.
We all know that we need love…..
